Wally and Molly finally arrived!

Their official US Government escort dropped them off in Navarre, FL today – two days after their anticipated arrival. They told us all about their adventures and misadventures of getting rerouted to Navarre, Spain instead of Florida!! They finally got back to the US and landed in Pensacola where they were picked up for the short journey over to Navarre. We certainly hope they get credit for those extra frequent flier miles over those 2 days. Such is the fun and exciting life of a Red Sox mascot, I guess.

Upon arrival, the poor kids were exhausted. But, being the celebrities that they are, they were happy to pose for a few pictures with our resident Red Sox characters. Wally met his uncle Pauly-Wally, there is no doubt they are family – the resemblance is simply uncanny. They also had a long chat with Paws – about the joys of being a mascot for a New England team.

They have dozed off on the couch and I don’t want to wake them. They have a big day Sunday seeing what it’s like to work with me.

Christmas at Lowes

(L): Helping Renee and Kadie . (R): Learning the names of all these plants is hard work.

Wally and Molly had a refreshing sleep after their travels and woke up early Sunday morning for our commute to Lowe’s in Fort Walton Beach. The skies were overcast, but the temperatures were balmy. When the sun came out a short time later, it felt like summer to these New Englanders.

We spent most of our day in the Outside Lawn and Garden area. Wally and Molly learned a lot about the different kinds of plants and enjoyed playing in the seasonal plants like poinsettias and

amaryllis as well as playing hide and seek in the Christmas wreaths. But then we had to get down to work. Wally and Molly helped with inventory and trimming some fir trees.

While we were at lunch a cold front came through, bringing showers and cold temperatures. We went from 80 to downright chilly in a very short time. It’s a good thing Wally and Molly are used to winter.

During the afternoon, we met some other co-workers inside the store and they were delighted to see Wally and Molly. We also met some Red Sox fans out in the garden who were happy to have their picture taken with Wally and Molly.

After a busy day, it was great to come home to see the rest of the Pats game with Uncle Pauly-Wally and Paws before supper!

We got home in time to watch the Patriots beat Denver. Wally and Molly enjoyed the chance to hang out with Uncle Pauly-Wally and Paws again.
Tomorrow we will be off to Pensacola and some sightseeing over there..

A special thank you to all the employee’s at Lowe’s!

After working so hard on Sunday, we took Monday off for a whirlwind tour of Pensacola and Navarre.

Welcome to Pensacola!

Welcome to Pensacola!

We strolled through downtown Pensacola and over to Palafox Pier. Wally brought his fishing rod and they did a bit of fishing. Unfortunately nothing was biting today. Then it was off to the National Aviation Museum at NAS Pensacola. The museum has a variety of exhibits showcasing all forms of military aviation through the present day. They have a lot of hands-on displays and Wally and Molly enjoyed the opportunity to play around on some of the planes.

joe-pattiFrom there we headed to Joe Patti’s, which is a famous fish market down on the waterfront. Wally couldn’t resist posing by a huge mound of crawfish. We passed on that for supper and brought some shrimp home instead.

The weather on the panhandle is not usually what people expect when they think of Florida. It has turned very cold and windy. Not as cold as Boston, but very close! However, we could not let Wally and Molly leave without seeing the beautiful sands of Navarre Beach and the longest fishing pier on the Gulf of Mexico.

Our sightseeing came to a close all too soon and we had to head home so Wally and Molly could get packed and have a chance to say good-bye to Uncle Pauly-Wally and all the other Sox characters who live with us.

Tuesday they will be off to Arkansas and more adventures. Bon voyage Wally and Molly!
